K.I. SAWYER - Sawyer International Airport will soon begin offering some new midday flights to Detroit and Chicago.
Airport officials said the new additions to the flight schedule were being made in response to local demand for more seats and more flight options.
"We've made our case and the airlines have positively responded," said Duane DuRay, Sawyer International Airport manager. "Now it's up to the community. Ridership and load factors will determine how long we maintain these schedules."
American Airlines plans to add a 1:40 p.m. departure to Chicago O'Hare Airport effective June 12. Two Saturday flights will also be added, providing greater flexibility in scheduling, officials said. American Airlines currently has an 8 a.m. flight to Chicago Sundays through Fridays.
Delta Air Lines previously announced plans to add a third daily departure to Detroit effective March 2. Delta Airlines currently has Detroit departures at 6:15 a.m. daily and 5:23 p.m. Sundays through Fridays.
