NMU basketball teams both fall at Northwood

MARQUETTE - The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team fell to 10-8 overall and 7-7 in GLIAC play this season via a 65-52 loss to Northwood in downstate Midland on Saturday.

Sophomore forward Brooke Coenen scored a career-high 11 points for NMU, hitting all four shots from the field and both free throws. Sophomores Alyssa Colla, Lauren Gruber and Abbey DeBruin each had nine points.

DeBruin had six rebounds, as did freshman Nea Makela.

The Wildcats shot 36.7 percent from the field and only connected on five of 21 3-point attempts.

Northern hosts GLIAC North Division leader and U.P.-rival Michigan Tech on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Berry Events Center in Marquette.

The NMU men's basketball team fell 81-48 to Northwood in Midland on Saturday despite three Wildcats scoring in double figures.

Junior forward Matt Craggs led NMU with 12 points while sophomore forward Kendall Jackson and freshman guard Stephen Pelkofer each had 10 points.

Jackson also pulled in seven rebounds while sophomore guard Quinten Calloway totaled nine points and five rebounds.

NMU (4-14 overall, 3-11 in GLIAC) hosts Michigan Tech at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
