Lucy M. Kangas

ISHPEMING, MI - Lucy M. Kangas, age 78, of 220 Lawrence Ave. Ishpeming Twp. passed away at 6:10am on Friday, January 25, 2013 at her home and while in the loving care of her family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.

Lucy was born August 31, 1934 in Humboldt Twp. the daughter of Lawrence and Lucy (Koski) Salminen. She was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1952 and of NMU with a business teaching degree in 1956. Lucy taught at the Republic High School from 1956 1962. She married William Kangas on Oct. 14, 1961 in Calumet and together they raised their two children in Ishpeming Twp. Lucy was an avid reader and loved painting. In her younger years she was active in local bowling leagues. Lucy was a member of the Tri-state Ladies Lions Club.

Survivors include her husband William "Bill" Kangas of Ishpeming Twp., a son Christopher (Jaclyn) Kangas of Tulsa, OK, a daughter Karen Gonzalez of Milwaukee, WI, 2 sisters Lynn (John) Nardi of Negaunee and Lori Napierala of Milwaukee, WI, 3 grandchildren Kyle & Kaitlyn Kangas, and Alexander Gonzalez, several nieces and nephews, along with members of her husband's family in Canada, and many close friends. She was preceded in death by a sister Karen Schiemann and a brother Buddy Salminen.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 11:00am on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am on Tuesday at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Bryan Salminen to officiate. Inurnment will take place in the spring at the Humboldt Twp. Cemetery.
