Steven Thomas ‘Steve’ Mattson

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Steven Thomas "Steve" Mattson, age 59, of Marquette, passed away Monday morning, January 7, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital, in the loving care of his family.

Steve was born July 18, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan to George and Helmi Mattson. He spent his youth in the Detroit area, graduating from Henry Ford High School in Detroit. After graduating, Steve married his high school sweetheart, Barbara.

After Barbara enlisted in the Military Air Force the couple traveled around extensively, living in the Philippines, Wyoming, England, Germany, Ohio, and Michigan. In 1985, Steve and Barbara were stationed in the Philippines, where they adopted their daughter, Bonnie, who was only several days old. They continued to move around due to Barbara's career, finally settling down in Marquette, Michigan. Steve and Barbara enjoyed traveling and family over their 37 years of marriage, until Barbara's death in 2011.

Steve is survived by his daughter, Bonnie (Ryan Kennedy) Mattson; his sister, Melissa (Joe) Dugan; nephew, Joey Dugan; nieces, Alex Evans and Hannah Dugan. Steve was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Barbara; his parents; and a sister, Cheryl Metz.

Honoring the family's request, no services are being held at this time.
