Rochester leads Redettes to gymnastics win at Negaunee

NEGAUNEE - Avery Rochester won two events and ran away with the all-around title to lead Marquette Senior High School to a 110.55-106.00 victory over host Negaunee in gymnastics on Thursday.

Rochester won the bars with a 6.80 score and the balance beam with 7.10 to help her accumulate a 29.70 all-around total, nearly three full points ahead of her teammate, runner-up Mikayla Mitchell, with 26.75. Rochester was also second in the vault and third in the floor exercise.

Despite not scoring a top-three finish in any individual event, a third Redette, Rachel Snow, came in third in the all-around with 25.50.

Other winners Thursday included Katie Torreano of Negaunee on the vault with 8.30 and Sarah Fosco of Marquette in the floor exercise with 8.55, the single highest score of the meet.

Each team's next meet is at home against Escanaba - Marquette's at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Negaunee's at 7 p.m. on Jan. 23.
