MARQUETTE - Tony Fedrizzi and Brock Smith scored goals by the Marquette Senior High School JV hockey team lost a 5-2 decision to Menominee-Marinette at the Marquette JV Hockey tournament on Jan 4.
The visiting Thunder scored first and finished with a 36-18 shots advantage.
MSHS assists went to James Hendrickson and Alex Warchol as Redmen goaltender Gabe Apple stopped 31 shots.
"I think the youngness of our team showed tonight as we didn't play very disciplined hockey and seemed to be chasing them all night," Marquette coach Keven Thomsen said. "Gabe Apple did another real good job in net for us. We need to find a way to skate better in front of him."
MSHS rebounded to win its next two games, beating Blagec Brothers of Kingsford, 4-2, on Jan. 5 and then ripping De LaSalle 10-2 on Jan. 6.
Against Kingsford, the MSHS skaters got two goals from Cole Rieboldt, as well as single tallies from Alex Warchol and Brock Smith.
Picking up assists were Tanner Carriere, Warchol, Rieboldt, Sam Leow and Nick Tuma.
Johnny Beckman made 26 saves in goal for the Redmen.
"We played good enough to win, but I felt that we were still way too sloppy and fell asleep in the third period," Thomsen said. "We need to learn to play a whole game ... and not chase them around."
On Jan. 6, the Redmen (6-5) got four markers from Smith and two from Leow in their 10-2 win. Also scoring were Rieboldt, Jacob Patterson, Warchol and Carriere.
Notching helpers were Rieboldt (4), Smith (2), Warchol (2), Tuma (2) and Hunter Larson (2), James Hendrickson, Zach Carter and Patrick Burmeister.
Gabe Apple got the net win (no saves available).
"We capitalized on their mistakes and didn't chase them around like we did in the previous two games," Thomsen said.
