As winter starts to put down a little more of a foothold in the area, outdoor sports enthusiasts are anxious to get out to pursue their favorite activities.
These winter sports include skiing, snowshoeing, skating, snowmobiling, ice fishing, ice climbing and - for a growing group of west end residents - naturbahn luge.
The naturbahn, or natural track luge, enthusiasts have a wonderful venue at Lucy Hill in Negaunee to enjoy their sport.
With the recent snowfalls the track is starting to take shape with hill officials hoping to open soon.
As with many small-town operations, though, there is a need for volunteers to help get the hill in shape and maintain it through the winter.
Tammy Wills, naturbahn luge coach at Lucy Hill, said there are all kinds of tasks volunteers can help out with, and there is no experience needed - simply a desire to get outside, enjoy a little exercise and help out at the track, which serves lugers of all ages.
To volunteer, call Wills at 361-4843 or visit the Upper Peninsula Luge Club Facebook page and send a message.
