MARQUETTE - The Marquette County Sheriff's Office reported the arrest of two 20-year-old males suspected in a pair of auto thefts and a breaking and entering of Fran's Service Station in Palmer last month.

The names of the two suspects are not being published pending their arraignment in Marquette County District Court. One is from Gwinn and the second from Marinette, Wis. The Gwinn man was arrested Thursday at a residence at K.I. Sawyer. after police received an anonymous tip. The second suspect was arrested Friday without incident in Marinette County, Wis.

Marquette County Sheriff's deputies have been working with deputies from the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office in Iron Mountain and the Marinette County Sheriff's Office, Wis. on possible connections to crimes or evidence in these counties.

At about 10:40 p.m. Nov. 18, the owner of Fran's Service Station in Palmer was returning home when he came upon two male subjects who were exiting a rear basement window with stolen merchandise.

Police said the suspects briefly subdued the owner at gunpoint and then fled on foot into a wooded area behind the store. The store owner was not injured. Police said the suspects could only be described as two young adult males wearing dark hooded sweatshirts.

Earlier this week, police described incidents in Dickinson and Marinette counties where warrants were issued for the two suspects for stolen vehicles, related to the Palmer crime.

Marinette County deputies were investigating the theft of a 1999 Chevy Silverado Pickup, blue and silver in color, reported stolen on Nov. 16. At the time of the theft, the truck had a red topper over the bed of the truck and there was a handgun in the vehicle, police said.

Police said the truck has been linked to the breaking and entering in Palmer.

On the morning of Nov. 19, the Dickinson County Sheriff's office recovered the Silverado stolen out of Marinette County, without the topper. About the same time on Nov. 19, a vehicle which had been reported stolen out of Felch in Dickinson County was recovered in Marinette County, Wis. Both stolen vehicles were processed for evidence in Dickinson County with the assistance of deputies from Marquette and Marinette County.

In a news release Friday, police thanked the public for tips called in.
