NEGAUNEE, Mich. - Vincent J. "Pancho" Villa, 89, of 1028 Oak St., Negaunee, died peacefully at his home at 2:55 PM on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, with his loving family at his side and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Vincent was born December 29, 1922, in Gwinn to George and Maria C. (Ceretto) Villa and was a graduate of Gwinn High School, Class of 1940. He was a Negaunee resident since 1940. Mr. Villa was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served with the 5th Air Corp in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. Following his service to his country he attended Northern Michigan University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education in 1947. He earned his Masters degree from the University of Michigan in 1953. Mr. Villa taught industrial arts for 38 years, including 31 years at Ishpeming High School, from where he retired in 1986.
Pancho was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, was a life member of the V.A. Romo Post 3165 V.F.W., Negaunee, was a life member of the Negaunee Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Michigan Education Association. In his younger years he played in the Negaunee City Band. He loved spending time at the family camp on Mitchell Lake, enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, an occasional trip to the casino, and dancing to Big Band Music with his favorite gal. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and having the family dogs around. He also loved visits from, and running into, his former students. He prided himself on hard work, and was a real "Mr. Fix it" and "Jack-of-all-trades."

Surviving are his wife of 64 1/2 years, Kathleen "Skippy" (Koskey) Villa; 2 sons: Steven V. (Nancy Irish) Villa of Marquette, Paul J. Villa of Negaunee; 1 daughter, Julie K. (Brent) Nault of Negaunee; 4 grandchildren: Jamie Villa, Lindsey (Lee) Ringuette, Tyler J. Nault, Tony D. Nault; 3 great-grandchildren: Amelia McCormick, Nolan and Emma Ringuette; 2 stepgranchildren: Jesse and Anna; a sister, Domenica Russo of Negaunee; a brother-in-law, Robert (Rena) Koskey of Negaunee; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant son George in 1951, and a sister Ida in 1924.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. Burial will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sean O'Donnell, Mike Koskey, Ron Maki, George Russo, Mike Mileski, Robert Prittinen and Jack Ghiardi. The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00 noon until 3:30 p.m. at the Koskey Funeral Home on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, U.P. Home Health and Hospice, or the St. Paul Catholic Church Memorial Fund in Pancho's memory.
