To the Journal editors:
The Ishpeming Hematite Sports Booster Club would like to thank everyone in the Ishpeming community for making our recent spaghetti dinner fundraiser an outstanding success. It was an afternoon filled with great food and Hematite spirit.
We would especially like to thank the student athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers for contributing their time and effort. Also, we want to thank the parents who contributed baked goods for the dinner.
A special thank you goes out to Scott Syrjala and his students for their hard work in bringing the Hematites-R-Us merchandise to the dinner. The day-long efforts, positive attitudes and camaraderie are a reminder of just how great a community we live in.
Our fundraiser would not have been so successful without all of your contributions.
The booster club would also like to say thank you and job well done to the MHSAA Division 7 State Champion Ishpeming High School Varsity Football Team and coaching staff.
The team is a special group of young men and we are so proud of all of their hard work and dedication. Way to go boys!
We also must add how proud we are of our neighboring communities, Munising especially, who put aside the local rivalries and lent their support to our boys.
No matter who goes downstate, as long as they are an Upper Peninsula team, we Yoopers put aside our differences to root for them. The Ishpeming Hematite Sports Booster Club thanks you.
The Ishpeming Hematite Sports Booster Club would also like to congratulate Eric Dompierre on winning the Sports Illustrated "Underdogs" contest.
The booster club would like to thank all Yoopers, far and wide, who voted for Eric's story, "Heart of the Team." Eric, the team and the coaches are most deserving of this award and the trip.
We are also so happy to hear that they have received enough money for the entire team to go to New York City. Thank you all Yoopers for being so generous!
