MANISTIQUE - The Iron Mountain boys made things tough for Manistique Tuesday night as they handed the Emeralds a 55-21 season-opening prep basketball loss.

Iron Mountain led 10-2 after the first quarter and 26-6 at halftime of the Mid-Peninsula Conference affair.

Luke Zambon led the Mountaineers with 14 points. Taylor Huotari and Gerry Pirkola added 12 apiece.

Coby Ryan and Connor Selling scored six points each for the Emeralds, who sank just 8-of-52 field goals.

"I think we settled down in the third quarter," said Emeralds' coach Todd Kangas. "But we started real poorly.

"We didn't shoot well, and a lot of that I think was inexperience. We had good shots. Only, we need to work on getting higher percentage shots."
