Marjorie L. Erkkila

KINGSFORD, Mich. - Marjorie L. Erkkila, 85, of Kingsford, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain.

She was born February 7, 1927, in Negaunee, Mich., daughter of the late James and Edna (Pascoe) Piper. Marjorie married Lee Erkkila on February 27, 1945, in Negaunee. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1995.

Marjorie and Lee moved from Negaunee in 1948, and returned to the Upper Peninsula, Iron Mountain, in 1965. While living in Iron Mountain, Marjorie worked as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Wards, Strand Accounting, and the Mid-Peninsula Library which later became Dickinson County Library.

She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Iron Mountain, past member of Oak Crest Golf Course and the Pine Grove Country Club. Marjorie enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, knitting, playing cards, and reading.

Marjorie is survived by two sons, Lee "Skip" (Joann) Erkkila, Kingsford, Forrest (Mary) Erkkila, Kingsford; four grandchildren, Jason (Christine) Erkkila, Brandon Erkkila, Jennifer Erkkila, Ryan (Stacy) Erkkila; three great- grandchildren, Carlee, Zander, and Brian; three step-grandchildren, Stacey Long, Bradley Senger, Amy (Tim) Nixon; a very special friend, Beverly McCole.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Northey and JoAnn Johnson.

The visitation will be Thursday, November 15, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The funeral service will be 6:30 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. Paul Mallory will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
