Saturday is a really big day for local football fans

November 9, 2012
The Mining Journal

Saturday marks an important day for local football fans.

Three big games are on tap on the gridiron that day, two involving local high school teams and the other featuring the 2012 swan song of the Northern Michigan University football Wildcats.

All three games, unfortunately, take place at the same time. We're hoping fans cheering on a local team at one event will be sending well wishes into the universe for the other two Superiorland squads.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, football fanatics can choose from these three games:

For the Hematites and Miners, Saturday marks the chance to advance to the state semifinals, one step closer to the ultimate goal of becoming state champions.

For the Wildcats, the game will be the opportunity to continue to build positives from which the team can grow under the guidance of first-year coach Chris Ostrowsky.

We wish all three teams the best of luck. We hope all three venues are packed with cheering admirers and the locals are victorious, demonstrating a bit of U.P. power toward their downstate foes.
