To the Journal editor:
On Tuesday, voters will be asked to choose one of the two candidates for Marquette County probate judge. Both candidates have excellent legal credentials and either will make a fine judge.
As a former candidate for the position, I have a unique view of what each candidate has to offer beyond legal background, political connections, community connections and endorsements from organizations.
George Hyde has been in private practice most of his legal career. His ability to maintain and manage a successful law practice over the years demonstrates an ability to provide fiscal responsibility through trying economic times, as well as an ability to manage support staff for his law practice.
This ability to manage both a staff and a budget are vital to the behind the scenes operations of the probate court where the judge oversees a staff in excess of 20 people with a budget that exceeds $2.3 million annually.
For the last 11 years, George has been the juvenile court referee in the probate court. Time and again George has demonstrated the ability to make decisions affecting young people and their families in this county.
His experience and familiarity of the day to day operations of the court and its staff would result in a seamless transition from the out-going judge to the in-coming judge to the benefit of not only those individuals and their families who come before the court but all the people of this county as well.
I encourage the voters of this county to join me next Tuesday in casting a vote for George Hyde for Marquette County Probate Judge.
