Sentinels finish as runners up in TC

MARQUETTE - A 3-2 shootout loss to host Traverse City left the Marquette City Insurance Sentinels Pee Wee AA hockey team with a runner-up finish in the Traverse City Tournament Oct. 26-28.

Luke Beerman of Marquette (10-4) had tied the game with seven seconds remaining in regulation time while the local club had an extra attacker.

Nate Bordson also scored for the Sentinels, with both Beerman and Bordson assisting on the other's goal.

Marquette reached the championship game by defeating the USA Eagles, 9-2. Daunte Fortner led the way with four goals, while Bordson added two markers and three assists. Alec Olivier, Tanner Phillips and Ethan Jones also tallied goals.

Recording helpers were Phillips (2), Reece Fortner (2), Olivier, Nick Leafers and Ted Hoenke.

Earlier, the Sentinels whipped Belle Tire, 14-1; the USA Eagles, 11-2; and Trenton, 6-2.

Scoring for Marquette in those games were Bordson with nine goals and six assists; Daunte Fortner with nine goals and four helpers; Beerman with three tallies and assist; Phillips with two goals and two helpers; and Sean O'Connor with two markers and three assists.

Others gaining points for the Sentinels were Alec Beauchamp with a goal and an assist; Kobie Guidebeck with a goal and a helper; Jones with a marker; Leafers with a tally; Reece Fortner with three assists; and Carter Peterson and Chris Sliva with one goal each.

Squirts move to 9-2-3

MARQUETTE - A 1-1 tie and 9-0 victory over the Alpena Wrecks has bumped the Marquette TriMedia Sentinels Squirt AA hockey team to a 9-2-3 overall record and 3-0-1 NIHL mark.

In the tie game, Joseph Luke scored the lone TriMedia goal. Hogan Nemetz and Cooper Anderson recorded assists on the second period marker.

Netminder Preston Maki turned aside 18 shots on goal for Marquette.

In the 9-0 triumph, Braydon Stannard fueled the fire with five goals. Luke added a goal and two assists, while Andrew Fedrizzi, Jacob Peterson and Nemetz each notched a marker.

Fedrizzi and Peterson each collected an assist, while Ethan Sellers recorded three helpers for a playmaker.

Goaltender Carson Hayes recorded his second shutout of the season for TriMedia.
