NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP - Michael E. Turino, 63, of 55 State Hwy M-35, Negaunee Township, died at 2:00 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012 at Marquette General Hospital following a three-month illness.

Mike was born November 30, 1948 in Marquette to Paul and Shirley A. (Genord) Turino and was a graduate of Ishpeming High School, Class of 1966. He continued his education at Northern Michigan University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Secondary Education in 1969, a Master of Arts degree in Industrial Secondary Education in 1981 and a Master of Arts degree in School Counseling in 1987.

He began his career as an Industrial Arts teacher at Central Lake, MI High School. He taught at Menominee High School before coming to Westwood High School where he also taught Industrial Arts before becoming a Guidance Counselor. Mr. Turino was instrumental in the organization of the original "Lock-in" graduation parties for student safety at Westwood High. He continued his career at Northern Michigan University as the Coordinator of Academic Support Services at the Academic and Career Advisement Center (Jacobetti Center) until taking a leave of absence because of his illness.

Mike was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, was a charter member of the Ishpeming Blue Notes Drum and Bugle Corp, was a member of the Ishpeming Beagle Club, was a former member of the Negaunee Lions Club, had earned a Red Belt with a Black Stripe in Tae Kwondo, and was Michigan Tech Basketball fan, especially when his son was playing.

Surviving are his parents, Paul and Shirley Turino of Ishpeming, his wife, Ann (LaMere) Turino, 1 son, Paul (Melissa) Turino of Allen Park, 3 daughters: Kristin (David) Clark of Malakoff, TX, Maryellen (John) Sandle of Canandaigua, NY, Shelly (Kurt) Simula of Champion, 2 stepsons: Jesse Collins and Todd (Autumn) Collins and a step-daughter, Bethany Collins, all of Negaunee, 12 grandchildren: Janelle, Cortney and Sydney Turino, Nolan and Gabby Martin, Paige Hyde, Tara and Dale Sandle, Jake, Laura and Tori Simula, and Giuliana Collins, 1 great granddaughter, Elaina O'Donnell, 1 brother, Steven (Marj) Turino of Minnetonka, MN, 3 sisters: Mary (Doug) Stone of Negaunee, Francine (Stephen) Bertucci and Rosanne (Ray Goyen) Turino, both of Ishpeming, his mother-in-law, Eunice LaMere of Palmer, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2nd at St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee with Monsignor Peter Oberto officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at 4:00 p.m. at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Bay Cliff Health Camp or the St. Vincent De Paul Society in Mike's memory.
