MARQUETTE - The Marquette City Insurance Sentinels Pee Wee AA hockey team swept through a busy weekend of games, winning twice in Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday and twice more at home against Calumet on Sunday to improve to 6-3 overall and 6-0 in the Northern International Hockey League.
The team will play at the Traverse City Pee Wee AA Tournament this weekend.
The Sentinels blanked the Soo Lakers 9-0 and 10-0 at Pullar Stadium in Sault Ste. Marie as goalies Tyler Bergwall and Dylan Sibilsky each picked up their first shutouts this season.
In the 9-0 game, Bergwall made 18 saves as his teammates supported him with seven first-period goals, including two by Nate Bordson, who finished with four. Luke Beerman and Daunte Fortner also scored twice and each had two assists, while Tanner Phillips rounded out the scoring.
Reece Fortner had two assists and Chris Sliva and Sean O'Connor had one apiece.
In the 10-0 result, Sibilsky had to make a big save early on to preserve the shuout. Bordson, Beerman, Phillips and Daunte Fortner each scored twice, with Nick Leafers and Ethan Jones adding one apiece. Bordson also had three assists and Beerman two.
Bergwall stopped six shots to pick up another shutout in Marquette's opening 6-0 victory over Calumet on Sunday. Bordson scored three third-period goals, with Leafers, Alec Beauchamp and Daunte Fortner adding one each. Jones had two assists.
The Sentinels finished the sweep with a 6-2 win over Calumet as Beerman had two goals and two assists and Daunte Fortner scored twice. Phillips and Bordson also had a goal and an assist. Sibilsky made 12 saves in net.
