Former Northern Michigan athletic director Ken Godfrey dies at age 64

MARQUETTE — Former Northern Michigan University Athletic Director Ken Godfrey died Wednesday night at the age of 64, just four days after being inducted into the NMU Sports Hall of Fame.
Godfrey was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on Oct. 18, 2010, but following a bone-marrow transplant in the early part of 2011, began a long-suffering battle with graft-versus-host disease.
Godfrey, a native of Maywood, Ill., was the athletic director at NMU from 2003-2011. He spent 32 years at NMU.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Canale Tonella Funeral Home in Marquette and will be available at www.canalefuneral.com.
