NMU Football Game Day Guide: Wildcats host Saginaw Valley State

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University football team closes the season with the first of two games at the Superior Dome, hosting Saginaw Valley State at 1 p.m.
NMU hosts Ferris State a week from today for Senior Day, same ’Cats time, same ’Cats channel.
NMU senior Rockne Belmonte will be attempting to break the Wildcat record for field goals made in a career these last two weeks. He trails Kyle Marotz by three. Marotz hit 41 field goals from 2002-05.
Northern has won two of its last three games after the defense held back a Northwood comeback a week ago in Midland. It’s NMU’s only road win this season.
SVSU is coming off a 34-23 victory over Michigan Tech in Saginaw. Receiver Jeff Janis caught 18 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns, breaking three SVSU records.
The Cardinals are looking forward to today’s game inside the Superior Dome, according to MLive’s Hugh Berneuter, after enduring a cold, windy and rainy week downstate thanks to the leftovers of Superstorm Sandy.
SVSU at 7-2 overall, 6-2 in the GLIAC, is chasing a playoff spot after landing No. 6 in the most recent regional rankings, according to Justin Brouchaert of the Midland Daily News. SVSU is also in a three-way tie for the North Division title, but undefeated Ashland remains atop the South Division and league.
