Those words

To the Journal editor:

Friday night found me shivering, standing ankle deep in snow on a sidewalk alongside Third Street with fellow members of the lumpenproletariat.

I was waiting for Marquette’s “Winter Snow Fun Holiday Parade.” Out of curiosity, as the parade passed, I decided to monitor the event. And I was shocked, outraged by the results! Because I kept hearing the same two words, over and over again. I actually kept count, and came up with the damning total of 73.5 (although, I have to admit, when Santa rode by, he skewered results considerably).

I mean, I didn’t even hear a single “Happy Holidays,” let alone a “Have Yourself A Merry Winter Snow Fun Holiday.” No. I’d come to think of this burg as being worldly, sophisticated, cutting edge. Instead those two words only mire us in the past.

I’m so deeply disappointed.
