Education programs work

To the Journal editor:

On Thursday, April 24, eighth grade students from Bothwell Middle School joined members of the local community at work, both in recognition of National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day and as part of our annual eighth grade Job Shadowing experience.

Job shadowing, and reflecting on the experience, is one of the ways students can learn about what careers are really about as they continue to make decisions about options in school and the world of work.

Career exploration and college/career readiness is part of our 8th grade curriculum; getting into the workplace is a great “next step” for our students.

Bothwell faculty and staff greatly appreciate the time, opportunities, and encouragement our students received while visiting local businesses, service providers, Northern Michigan University and other Marquette Area Public Schools.

We are lucky to live in a community that continually supports our students and schools. With the support of local business leaders, education leaders, business owners, and parents, we are able to provide our students real life opportunities that let them explore different career paths. We appreciate this ongoing partnership with our Bothwell parents and our community.

Thank you for your investment in the youth of our community.

Sincerely,
