Above and beyond

Above and beyond

To the Journal editor:

I wish to write to tell you of a wonderful young man who on Jan. 29 bought dinner for five complete strangers.

Is he a saint? Yes, I think so.

Jeremiah, a driver for MarqTran, picked up five strangers at about 4:50 p.m. from Pine Ridge. Where were we going? Why, to a free church dinner at St. Peter’s.

The churches in Marquette take turns and then alternate and help one another with clean up and good fellowship.

But it wasn’t to be; there was no free meal at St. Peter’s. Had it moved or plans changed? We were baffled as to the problem.

Perhaps one clue should have been no other passengers waiting for the bus. Jeremiah took us around to pick up others but no one was waiting at any stop.

Our second big clue was no lights and no smells of coffee and food. We were baffled – did they change rooms or churches? No one knew.

Jeremiah was so sweet. He tried to call around for information, but to no avail. He called the dispatcher and did get a big affirmation for the church meal bus.

He then asked permission to take all of us to dinner. As he explained, we had all anticipated a meal, now we had zero. We were hungry.

We were shocked and grateful to him. We went to Big Boy where we were served quick hot dishes, truly filling. We are all grateful to this young man. He paid for all five of us from Pine Ridge.

Yes, we met an angel on earth in the form of a MarqTran driver. Jeremiah was his name. Please one and all thank him.

Wow, what a great guy.
