New Day thankful

To the Journal editor:

Camp New Day UP had another great week of camp this year. The board members all agree that it was a challenging, exciting, and successful year. The counselors were a big part of that success as were Caron Christopherson and her staff at Presbytery Point Camp.

The following people and organizations in our communities generously contributed which made the camp a success: Keweenaw Bay Indian Community; Superior Health Foundation; Marquette West Rotary; Escanaba Kiwanis; Greater Ishpeming Pioneer Kiwanis; Sault Ste. Marie Rotary; Shopko; St. Paul’s Episcopal, Marquette; Grace Episcopal Church, Ishpeming; Episcopal Diocese of Northern Michigan; First Presbyterian of Munising; White Pine Community United Methodist Church; Marquette Prince of Peace Lutheran Church; St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Marquette; Grace Lutheran Church, Gwinn; Church of the Transfiguration, Ironwood; and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Crystal Falls.

Individual contributions make up 20 percent of our funding and we thank them. We will not print their names here for privacy reasons.

The following local businesses donated food or other supplies for the week of camp: Jilberts Dairy; Econo Foods; Huron Mountain Bakery; Marquette Food Coop; Farmer Q’s; and the Cherry Creek Market.

Thank you to the following groups who contributed $1,000 or more to CNDUP this year: The Frazier Fund; The Hirvonen Foundation; The Phyllis and Max Reynolds Foundation; Marquette County Community Foundation; Marinette & Menominee Area Community Foundation; the Community Foundation for Delta County; and the Chippewa County Community Foundation

The board members of Camp New Day UP gratefully thank all of the above for their contributions to our summer camp program. Parents tell us every year that if it weren’t for CNDUP, their children would not be able to go to a summer camp.

Without your community support there would be no Camp New Day UP.
