Policies lamented

To the Journal editor:

The story about the two French girls riding their bikes through Marquette on their way across Canada reminded me that only in America do we tear down our heritage.

The two home towns of the French girls have store fronts over 400 years old. What do we have? Kaye and Longyear halls are gone forever from Northern Michigan University.

I remember city commissioners 25 years ago in Marquette falling all over themselves trying to get the Rosewood Hotel demolished.

Same thing in Negaunee. The Sundberg block building, with its amazing front architectural facade, is coming down in spite of the efforts of Jim Kantola to rescue it. I thank him for his efforts.

Pretty soon all we’ll have left in Negaunee are Superior View photos of what Negaunee used to look like.
