Crafty people here

To the Journal editor:

One of the many great things about Marquette is the sense of community that exists all through the year.

This past month the Cheer Club has once again provided many wonderful gifts for the children in the community. Who doesn’t remember the excitement of Christmas morning through the eyes of a child?

We also shouldn’t forget adults who are a bit lonely and need some support and cheering up. Since becoming a resident of Snowberry Heights, I see daily acts of kindness among the residents.

This past year, the Snowberry Heights Crafters have been working on individual projects for family members, as well as for the women and children served by Harbor House.

We have donated 89 new items, many items are made from yarn generously donated by Coats & Clark and Snowberry residents. If you have some yarn to donate, we will gladly accept donations for our next community project.

Donations should be marked for the crafting group, and left at the front desk with your name and contact information. We meet weekly on Tuesdays to learn new skills from each other, for socialization and work on projects for members of our community.

This month we have been treated to performances by: Silver Creek Church Carolers, Marquette Male Chorus and entertainment by Pierre Ogea and friends.

Each resident of Snowberry also received a handmade “rug mug” from Bethene Robinson of Marquette. These programs and gifts certainly brighten the day for the seniors.

As senior citizens we have seen various stages of life, and we still want to share our talents and time with the community.

Thank you to all who have shared the meaning of Christmas with us, and Happy New Year.
