‘Chef’ to be screened on Tuesday

MARQUETTE – Peter White Public Library invites film fans to a BYO Dinner Theater event at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to enjoy a screening of “Chef” in the library’s community room.

This comedy is about Chef Carl Casper who quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner. He teams up with his ex-wife, friend and son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen – and zest for life and love.

Starring Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr. Dustin Hoffman, Scarlett Johansson, “Chef” was released in May 2014, is rated R and runs for 114 minutes.

BYO Dinner Theater welcomes the public to bring their own takeout supper and enjoy the feature film in a dinner theater setting.

Healthy Eating educational program

MARQUETTE – Healthy Eating for Successful Living in Older Adults is an educational workshop and support program for seniors age 60 and older who want to learn more about nutrition and choosing behaviors that support heart and bone health using the new “MyPlate” tool.

The program is designed to assist older adults in the self-management of their nutritional health and to learn more about how nutrition and lifestyle changes can promote better health.

The workshop is held for 2 1/2 hours once a week for six weeks and includes general nutrition information, strategies for goal setting, a cooking demonstration and an optional restaurant outing upon program completion.

Healthy Eating for Successful Living in Older Adults is now available in Marquette and sponsored in partnership with the U.P. Area Agency on Aging-UPCAP and Marquette Food Co-op. The next Healthy Eating for Successful Living in Older Adults workshop starts Nov. 17 and will be held from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Marquette Food Co-op.

There is no fee for this program, however a $10 suggested donation is appreciated. Any program donations help to cover the workshop and a Healthy Eating program manual. Legion service officer visits U.P.

MARQUETTE – Patrick Kline, the American Legion’s department service officer, is making his monthly visit to the Upper Peninsula to assist veterans with claims preparation, presentation and appeal counsel. His schedule is:

  • Monday – Manistique American Legion, 9:30 a.m. to noon; and Rapid River American Legion Post 21, 1:30- 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 18 – Menominee Office of Veterans Affairs, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday – Baraga County Office Veterans Affairs, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Thursday – Marquette American Legion Post , 700 W. Bluff St. from 9 am to noon; and Munising American Legion Post, 1:30-4 p.m.
  • Friday – Newberry American Legion Post, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 28 – Sault Ste. Marie CBOC, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
