Life is choice

To the Journal editor:

A July 27 letter claimed that Jesus never said anything about homosexuality. I’ve heard this bumper sticker wisdom more times than I care to.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God … And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1, 14) Jesus, as the Word of God, does in fact speak against the abomination of homosexuality, which is termed sodomy in Scripture. Read Lev 18:22, Jug 19:22, 1KG 14:24, and Rom 1:26-27. 1Cor 6:6 says clearly that the effeminate will not inherit God’s kingdom.

The author claims that she was taught that God was … “all merciful and forgiving and that his children (us) were made in the image and likeness of him.” To whom is He all merciful and forgiving? To those who obey his commands. “If you love Me, obey My commands.” (John 14:15) Who are His children? “But as many as have received Him, to them He gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.” (John 1:12) Only Adam and Eve were made in the image of God.

After the fall, people were made in the image of their parents. “And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image, and called his name Seth.” (Gen 5:3)

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings.” (Jer 17:9-10)

If you believe that homosexuals were born that way, then you must extend that same explanation to murderers, drug dealers, rapists, pedophiles, abusers, addicts, and every other heinous crime you can imagine.

The truth is that everything we do is something we choose to do. Bad choices, like the abomination of homosexuality, have severe and eternal consequences in God’s kingdom.

Don’t mistake God’s love for His creation with the fact that He punishes those who reject His clear commands to behave in ways pleasing to Him. All detestable behaviors are not all pleasing to God. Woe unto the disobedient.
