Hate sin, devil

To the Journal editor:

Has this nation become soft on sin? It appears to me that in the last generation we have become soft on sin.

When I first heard that two people of the same sex could marry I was appalled as were at least 80 percent of Americans. The percentage has now changed to around fifty/fifty.

What caused this change? In my opinion it was due to the older generation not educating their children and grandchildren on what is sin according to the truth contained in the Holy Bible.

About 40-years ago I thought that the world would be a far better place in which to live if we could remove hate from our lives. I told this to an older, wiser gentleman and he said, “Not so!” He further told me that, “We must hate sin, hate evil and hate the devil.” I knew immediately that he was right.

Our society has been attempting to remove hate from our country and some churches have become soft on sin under the guise of “unconditional love.” Unconditional love is a good thing, but it will never be able to remove sin.

Pornography is a sin in which many lives have been ruined. The same can be said for drug and alcohol abuse. We should not deem them as acceptable but instead help people to realize what destructive sins they really are.

Tolerance of immorality has been growing in this country. We have become apathetic in our actions and in our inaction. We have accepted many behaviors that were shocking a generation ago and now are deemed permissible even by some churches. This nation is doomed by God if we continue on this destructive course.

Teachers are not revered as they once were and prayer in school is taboo. Police officers are scorned by many. The morning after pill can be acquired at age 15 by teenagers without parental consent. Tim Tebow is ridiculed by the press because he witnesses for Christ, yet another professional football player is deemed a hero for making his gay life style public!

Which of the two is a better role model for our children? Our society and the fabric of this nation is deteriorating rapidly. If we do not hate sin, evil and the devil the consequences to this nation will be disastrous. Abstain from sin.
