To the Journal editor:

Great news? I received my cable bill today, along with the many mailing for the last month stating “Great News,” your cable is going 100 percent digital”

Great news for who? Surely they cannot mean the consumer who is paying high prices to receive cable now.

And on top of it, you will need one of the cable company’s digital receivers to watch TV at only a cost of $6.99 per month ($83.88 per year); BUT of course you will be able to get one ‘free’ for the first year. WOW!! Big deal. I can almost guarantee that the monthly rate will go up within a year.

Thank you local cable company – Satellite TV is sounding better and better every billing statement I get, along with all the wonderful mailings. The cable company can give us a zillion ‘digital’ channels to receive but you can only watch one at a time.

Remember though this is great news – I’m still trying to figure out who the great news is for.
