Tinseltown in downtown Negaunee happening Saturday

Ishpeming, Marquette and Munising have done it, now it’s Negaunee’s turn to be in the Christmas spotlight when the Irontown becomes Tinseltown on Saturday.

The downtown area of Negaunee will be filled with sounds and sights of the holiday season in what has become a well-attended December event.

Raffles, specials and giveaways will be offered by many of the businesses along Iron Street from 4-8 p.m., with many hosting open houses.

A craft show will be featured in the Negaunee City Center during that same time frame.

And the Irontown Association will provide fun for the whole family with a Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting and Pictures with Santa. No advance registration is necessary to participate in the parade.

Anyone interested in participating in the Christmas Parade must be at the Negaunee Senior Center by 5:30 p.m. Saturday to line up. The parade is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., the tree lighting will directly follow. Santa will be at the Negaunee Elks after the parade and tree lighting.

The Negaunee City Band will play Christmas music to ring in the season and attendees can also take in “Carols and More,” with Jeff Jennings at the Historic Vista Theater, a ticketed event to raise money for the beloved theater.

For those who haven’t yet felt the Christmas spirit, this special afternoon/evening of holiday fun could be just the ticket.

Seeing the delight on the faces of children during the parade, tree lighting and their visits with that Jolly Ol’ Elf might be just what’s needed to jump start anyone into feeling the joy of the season.
