Local artists have unique opportunity to display work

Local artists seeking a venue to display their work my have caught a break from UP Health System-Marquette.

Hospital officials have invited local artists to apply to have their work put up in public areas of the new hospital, which is scheduled to open June 2.

UPHS has formed a committee to maintain a rotating exhibition of local art that will allow for both sculptural/3-D displays and 2-D wall-hanging displays. As many pieces are often for sale, artists’ contact information will be available so that interested parties may inquire and arrange purchase of the displayed works.

“Art can play a significant role in health and the healing process,” Victor Harrington, regional director of marketing and community relations, said in a press release. “It’s a great asset to promote these benefits by partnering with local artists and showcasing our local talent. We feel this exhibit is a win-win for our patients, guests and artists and will be an attractive addition to our beautiful, state-of-the-art facility.”

Harrington said UPHS hopes to have the selected pieces installed prior to its opening date of June 2.

We encourage local artists to take advantage of this unique opportunity to have their work displayed publicly.
