Spread Goodness Day all about little acts of kindness

Readers are reminded that March 15 is just around the corner, when Spread Goodness Day is being observed this year.

Not familiar? The first Spread Goodness Day was observed last year. Organized and promoted by local resident Anna Dravland, the day is set aside to, simply put, emphasize kindness. Last year, Dravland said she logged some 10,000 individual acts of kindness, everything from cheerful greetings to opening a door to assisting someone. This year, she wants to top 1 million acts of kindness worldwide.

“I have almost no doubt in my mind that we’re going to meet that goal, people are being very, very amazing,” Dravland said for a recent Mining Journal story on the issue.

“It’s about showing people the power they have to change the world every single day with simple goodness. So it’s just to empower people to understand that their actions literally change the world every single day.

Many are working to prepare for the day and already have big Spread Goodness Day plans in the works, Dravland said.

Examples include surprise flower deliveries by Forsberg’s A New Leaf, Connect Marquette’s “Every Kid Deserves A Birthday Bash,” as well as a special event to be held at the Marquette Commons by Select Realty March 15

Dravland, who suffered a stroke in November 2017, said planning for the second observance has proceeded apace. Sponsorships and opportunities to volunteer are available through a parent 501(c)(3) organization.

So mark your calendars. Don’t forget to spread goodness on March 15. For more information or to find ways to participate, donate visit www.facebook.com/spreadgoodnessday or www.spreadgoodnessday.com.
