Leading by example is powerful, positive force

“If you think you can do something, but you’re scared – do it anyway,” were the words of a local 9-year-old quoted in Thursday’s edition of The Mining Journal.

We think Ella Pond, of Marquette, is wise beyond her years, and we commend her mother, Breanna Pond, a local gynecologist, for setting a good example for not only her daughter, but parents and residents everywhere.

Ella Pond recently competed in a kids’ triathlon in Chicago, a goal she set for herself last winter after hearing her mother speak at an event about her transformation through running. Breanna also competed in a triathlon – The Transamerica Chicago Triathlon – the same weekend as Ella’s.

Challenging oneself to do better or be better, to step outside the comfort zone, is how we grow as individuals. Breanna did this for herself and, in the process, inspired her daughter to do the same. The lesson to gain from the experience shared by a local family is powerful in many ways: leading by example, the value of quality family time and courage are just a few.

In today’s world of modern conveniences and rapidity, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle – we know because we’ve all been there. Taking the time to reflect, test our capabilities and find inner strength seems more demanding. The Ponds might agree, however, the rewards are much greater and the time spent more valuable. Frankly, life is just more enjoyable with a feeling of accomplishment.

The ripple effect of this story is also compelling. It began with one woman’s motivation and spread to her daughter, who in turn shared her story with her classmates. Now, we’re sharing it with you.

We encourage our readers to find inspiration in this story and use it to challenge themselves.

After all, you never know who’s watching or who you might inspire.
