Noquemanon has something for everyone

We have arrived at the weekend when one of the best events of the winter blesses the community: the Noquemanon Ski Marathon.

Skiing, snowshoeing, skijoring and snow biking are all on the agenda as part of the Noque, now in its 17th year. In fact, from the Junior Noque today to Saturday’s big ski races, through the skijoring, snow bike and snowshoe events on Sunday, the weekend is packed with great fun for all ages.

Our area is beautifully showcased during events like the Noque and we are grateful to all those unsung folks who work diligently behind the scenes to meticulously plan the races. It’s a lot of work, but it’s done extraordinarily well.

We are thankful also to those who volunteer during the actual races, performing a variety of needed tasks to keep things on track.

Tonight’s Ski Expo is another example of great events that make Noque weekend so special, affording participants the chance to pick up their packets and to meet one another before the competition gets under way.

Saturday’s starts at a variety of locations are exciting, if you’ve never ventured out to watch. The finish line at the Superior Dome is a place to watch the conclusion of tests of endurance, especially from those who ski the 50K “big” race.

Winter can be a long season, so we’re thrilled when events like the Noquemanon happen. Snow and cold can be daunting at times, but when those two things result in events like this weekend, we say hallelujah: Let it snow.

With more than 1,100 people registered, we know how popular the Noquemanon has become. We welcome competitors and spectators from out of the area. We hope you enjoy your visit and that you’re greeted warmly.

And we believe that this fantastic winter event will bring you back to Superiorland again and again.

And watch Sunday’s Mining Journal for complete race results.
