Meth plague in area doesn’t seem to be ending

There just doesn’t seem to be an end to it.

Police agencies in Superiorland, this time in the city of Ishpeming, raided another apparent working meth lab. And this time, there were injuries to two people and two Ishpeming Police Department officers.

Details that the authorities have released were sketchy at the time of this writing. Initial reports suggested that officers with the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team assisted IPD officers in the raid at an Ishpeming apartment building early Sunday morning.

During the raid, two people were reportedly removed from the residence while two IPD officers reported disorientation plus eye and throat irritation.

The site was secured after the officers and people were taken to UP Health System – Bell for treatment. The investigation into that case continues.

This bust follows one in Marquette recently, which followed other recent raids on meth labs. Clearly area police have their hands full dealing with these illegal operations.

Meth is an absolute scourge. Addiction, experts and addicts alike tell us, can come after a single exposure.

Needless to say, police should be notified if anyone comes across such an operation, or its components.
