Police kick off new effort aimed at drunk drivers

We noted with pleasure that law enforcement officials, locally, regionally and across the state, have kicked off a new effort to aimed at finding, and arresting, drunk drivers.

This one is called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” Everything got started Friday and will run through the Labor Day weekend.

Michigan State Police, sheriff’s department and other agencies – some 150 departments all told – are conducting stepped up drunk driving and seat belt enforcement.

According to a story from The Associated Press, the campaign is using the fictitious Traffic Safety Brewing Company to get its message through to drivers. “Call a Cab Cider” and “Left My Keys at Home Lager” are safety-themed brews reminding people to drink alcohol responsibly.

Everyone knows drinking and driving is wrong. Yet many still do it and people keep getting killed because of it.

If you’re drinking, don’t drive. It’s just that simple.
