Marquette County Fair offers something for everyone

The Marquette County Fair gets underway Thursday and we encourage everyone to head out to the fairgrounds to check out all the fair has to offer.

Completely staffed by the generous time of local volunteers, the fair has something to offer everyone, from the food to the exhibits and from crafts to rides.

Those interested in taking in all there is to offer may have a difficult time getting it all in over the 4-day event:

Wednesday is the entry day for exhibits, livestock and other animals. Any exhibitors must enter their various departments between 4-8 p.m. and livestock will be weighed in from noon to 7 p.m.

The fair continues with judging Thursday, and exhibits open to the public at noon. There is an antique auto show, a draft show and the Iron Horse Motor Cross race also taking place throughout the day.

Friday is the day the kids will be waiting for as the Spectrum Entertainment carnival opens to the public at 10 a.m. Other Friday highlights are go kart races at 5 p.m. and a horse show at 3:30 p.m.. Rides and the midway are open until 10 p.m. Rides are $1 per ride all day Thursday, $25 for the whole day Friday and Saturday and $15 for all day Sunday.

Saturday and Sunday have plenty to offer as the weekend includes a miniature horse show, the antique and classic tractor pull, karaoke, more go kart races and the Flat Broke Blues Band. Exhibits will be released at 5:15 p.m. Sunday.

Other events include firefighter races, team penning, the Wild World of Animals, Wayne the Wizard and his balloon show and the Miss Marquette County Fair competition.

The fair is open from noon to 10 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Gate admission costs are $6 for adults and children 12-years-old and older, $1 for children 5-11 and free for children 4 and under. Weekly wristbands are available for $15 for adults and $3 for children.

The fairgrounds are located on M-553 south of Marquette.
