A Michigan State University research center in Superiorland is in line to receive a healthy financial boost, courtesy of a federal grant.

The Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center at Chatham, which has been around cince the late 1800s, is in line to get $500,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agriculture and Food Research Initiative.

Overall, MSU will receive $3.9 million for a range of projects to help Michigan farmers deal with climate change, food safety and marketing, according to a story published by The Associated Press.

In Chatham, the money will go to create an incubator farm to help northern Michigan residents and students enter the agriculture industry. Professor Matthew Raven heads the project, said AP.
