Local business leader seeks board seat

Dan Audette

My name is Dan Audette and I am running for the Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education.

My family and I are lifelong residents of the Marquette area. I am a 1996 graduate and alumnus of Marquette Senior High School. My wife, Carrie, is a 1995 graduate and alumnus of MSHS. Our sons, ages 12 and 17, are current students in the MAPS district.

I am the owner of Code Electrical, Inc. of Marquette, currently employing 14 employees. Many of our employees are also residents of the Marquette community.

As a business leader in our community, I take pride knowing that I am helping my employees take care of their families, contributing to the economic health of Marquette.

For many years, my company has been involved with Marquette Area Public School students. We have had several students job shadow as well as work side by side with our electricians.

Students have been given the opportunity to chose our work program as a class outside of the normal classroom. The students’ class begins in our office. I then send them out in the field with an electrician. When they are on the job, the student is able to see what actually takes place in an authentic construction project.

I have hired a few students after the end of the school year. I am hoping we can continue this program in the future as it is very important that interested students have the opportunity to get involved in a trade after graduation.

In addition to being a business leader in our community I have been a proud union member of the Electricians Union, Local 906, since 1997. I have served as a board member for the JATC apprenticeship committee.

I have served the children of the Marquette area for many years and this service is one of my proudest accomplishments. Currently, I am a ski coach for the Marquette Racing Team and previously, I served as a board member for ten years. For the last five years, I have been coaching and serving on the board of the Marquette County Pop Warner Football organization.

My interest in serving on the Marquette Area Public School board is very important to me. The Marquette Area Public Schools helped me to obtain my goals in life, and I feel that it is important to give back to our city and community.

I feel that I will be an asset to the board of education because of my knowledge and experience in the construction industry. Our nation is experiencing an extreme shortage of skilled workers.

Trade classes and trade schools must be emphasized as an alternative or as an addition to college prep classes. With my experience and knowledge, I will be able to give knowledgeable opinions on any future building projects, aiding the board to make the best decisions on how to spend our limited resources on these projects.

Finally, I promise to always keep our children’s best interests in mind. I will never do anything that I feel, in my heart, is wrong. I will bring my good common sense and dignified behavior to the Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education.

Editor’s note: Dan Audette is a local business owner and resident of the Marquette school district.
