Gregory Shimon

MARQUETTE, MI-Gregory L. ‘Greg’ Shimon, 60, of Marquette, MI, passed away on July 9, 2025, at Trillium House, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Greg was born on December 23, 1964, at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma, the son of Michael and Patricia (Johnson) Shimon. He graduated from John Marshall High School in Milwaukee, WI in 1983 and proudly served in the United States Air Force.
Greg received custody of his son ‘Mike’ when he was two years old. He did an excellent job raising his son, they built a strong relationship as they spent their lives watching over each other… true family devotion.
Greg was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, loved golfing and going to the casino. He found joy in simple pleasures like fishing, poetry, darts, karaoke, and country music. He had an appreciation for history, often spending time watching documentaries and comedy shows. He was always ready with a helping hand, known for his kindness and sense of humor.
Greg worked for Foley & Lardner Law Firm in Milwaukee before pursuing his passion for golf, graduating from the Professional Golfers Career College in Temecula, CA. After relocating to the Upper Peninsula, he was employed at K.I. Sawyer Airport.
Greg is survived by his son, Gregory Michael (Kate) Shimon of Appleton, WI; parents Michael and Patricia Shimon of Marquette; his sisters, Chris (Jon) Miller of Kaukauna, WI, and Marcia Rae (Dwight) Neeley of Mount Pleasant, WI; nephews, Jordan (Hannah) Miller (and baby Charlotte) of DePere, WI, Jason (Allie) Miller (and baby Jack) of Madison, WI, Jared Miller of Mount Pleasant, WI, and Lieutenant Dean Neeley of the USMC; uncle, Jim (Les) Johnson of Munford, TN; uncle, Jerry Shimon of Flint MI; aunt, Mary (Dick) Constance of Marquette; aunt, Marcia (David) Franti of Columbus, OH; special friends, Preston Young and MJ Wilson; as well as many other family members and friends that have known Greg.
Greg’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services beginning at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will begin at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Taylor officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the funeral home’s reception room.

Greg’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and caregivers of U.P. Health System- Marquette/Marquette Cancer Center/Oncology Department, UPCAP, ARCADIA Home Care & Staffing, U.P. Home Health & Hospice, and the Trillium House. This difficult journey was made a bit lighter for Gregás family caregivers because of the compassion, kindness and love shown by every person we met.
