Melvin ANderson

NEGAUNEE, MI – Melvin Eugene Anderson, 77, longtime Negaunee resident, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 4th, 2022, at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

Melvin was born October 30th, 1945, in Ishpeming, to Thomas Ezra and Helen Amelia (Lammi) Anderson and was a graduate of Negaunee High School. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged in August of 1966.

Melvin was employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as a Truck Driver at the Empire Mine. During his employment, he also served in the Michigan Army National Guard. He was a member and past president of the Negaunee Eagles Aerie #1944 and was also a member of VA Romo Post #3165, Negaunee VFW.

Melvin enjoyed the outdoors, walking in the woods, hunting and picking blueberries. He was also an avid woodworker, Green Bay Packers fan, and enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles.

Surviving are his son, Russell (Melanie) Anderson of Newport, MI; daughter, Sherri (Frank) Chastain of Princeton; three grandchildren: Samantha and Nathan Anderson, and Amber Chastain; one great-granddaughter, Madison Kurian; brother, Thomas (Alice) Anderson of Negaunee; two sisters: Marilyn (Brian) Davis of Tucson, AZ and Marsha (Jay) Manginen of Champion and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine (Olsen) Anderson in 2012; brother, Douglas; sister, Christine and his special companion, Diane Dishaw.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, on Thursday, December 8th, at Koskey Funeral Home, with military honors to be conducted at 1:00 pm.

A luncheon reception will immediately follow at the Negaunee Eagles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Melvin’s memory to the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund, 425 Fisher St., Marquette, MI 49855.
