Patricia Holman

NEGAUNEE, MI – Patricia Lee ‘Patty’ Holman, 76, of Negaunee, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, July 30th, 2022, at UP Health System – Marquette.

Patty was born November 2nd, 1945, in New Grace Hospital, Detroit, to Clifton ‘Kip’ and Betty (Emmons) Holman, and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1963. She continued her education at Northern Michigan University and later earned her Bachelor’s Degree in social work from the University of Minnesota and her Master’s Degree from St. Mary’s College in Minnesota. She was an advocate for and was very passionate about women’s rights and racial and marriage equality.

Patty lived in South Dakota for several years before moving to Minneapolis, where she lived with her longtime partner, Eleanor Strickland. During her time in Minneapolis, Patty worked as a social worker and was also a bus driver for Metro Transit. She returned to Negaunee in 2001, and worked at Great Lakes Recovery as a social worker for 15 years. Many of her co-workers and friends lovingly called her Magic Granny.

Surviving are her son, Christopher Holman; her beloved granddaughter, Amanda Holman; sister, Joy Holman; her nephew, Kurt (Jocelyn) Anderson and their children, Jared and Kurtie; great niece, Jennifer Anderson; great-nephew, Ron (Heather) Anderson and their children, Eiler, Gavin and Elsie; and her ‘almost granddaughters,’ Teresa Piziali and Eileen Rojas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carolyn (Ronald) Anderson; and nephews, Michael and Randy Anderson.

Honoring Patty’s wishes, no public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in her memory to the U.P. Sled Dog Association, PO Box 15, Marquette, MI 49855, The Southern Poverty Law Center or the American Civil Liberties Union.
