Charlotte (Patty) Tiberg Nebe

MARQUETTE, MI – Charlotte (Patty) Tiberg Nebel, of Marquette, died July 30th, 2022, at the age of 89.

Patty was born August 27th, 1932, in Calumet, MI, to Ralph and Esther Tiberg. She grew up in Duluth, MN, before moving to Marquette in 1939. Patty spent most of her life in Marquette, attending local schools, graduating from Graveraet High School class of 1950. While in school she loved being a cheerleader for the Marquette Redmen, as well as, working as an usher at the Nordic Theater.

After graduation she worked for Lake Shore Engineering. In August of 1953, she moved back to Duluth, MN, where she worked for Nabisco and Alastair Guthrie, Inc. She later moved to Astoria, Oregon. Moving back to Michigan, she and her husband ran the B&J Superette, until she retired in 1982.

After retiring Patty returned to being a homemaker. Her biggest joy was watching seven of her eight boys play hockey. Patty herself played hockey. Marquette had two women’s teams. She played for the “Hot Toddies.” The teams played in the UP and Green Bay to raise money for the 1st Plexiglas that was installed at the Lakeview Arena.

In September 2015, Patty and fellow hockey player, Millie Hanson, were named Grand Marshalls, in the Marquette Annual Hockey Parade.

In 1959, Patty was an extra in the movie “Anatomy of a Murder”, where she met many Hollywood stars. And she can be seen in most of the courtroom scenes.

Friends were most important to her, whether it was Sunday breakfast at Hardees, Big Boy, or playing bridge, Patty always said, “Old friends were her treasures in life.”

Patty is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ester Tiberg; sisters, Janice Campbell and Betty Amby, and stepson, Jack in 1989.

She is survived by sons, Kim, of Ishpeming, Roger of Alaska, Jon (Cindy) of Marquette, Donald (Marie) of Indiana, Mark (Paula) of Marquette, Brian of Marquette, and David of Marquette; grandchildren, Robert, Jeffery, Katy, Staci, Erin, Krista, Cara, Ashley, Ryan, Chris, Tony, Brett & Logan; great-grandchildren, Alex, Jackson, Sterling, Amelia, Avery, Aiden and two on the way; also surviving his her very special niece, Vicky Moore of Milwaukee, WI.

The Family would like to thank the nurses on the 6th floor at U.P. Health System – Marquette, Mission Point and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 4th, at Canale Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services, beginning at 9:30 a.m., until the time of the service in the funeral home at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Andrew Plocher of Messiah Lutheran Church officiating.

A luncheon will be served immediately following the service in the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Park Cemetery at a later date.
