Angela Ann (Kauppila) York

GWINN, MI – Angela Ann (Kauppila) York, age 59, of 4403 Eagle St., Gwinn, went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 5, 2021.

Angela was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on October 31, 1961, a daughter of James Kauppila and the late Renate (Dietzel) Kauppila. Angela graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice, receiving a 4.0 grade point average from the College of Lake County in Illinois. Angela spent most of her time as a homemaker, centered around her children. She worked as a CNA at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee for several years and as a CSA at ACN.

Angela was a Youth Leader and Sunday School Teacher for Heartland and Victory Lutheran Christian Churches. Angela was a woman of God and had a strong faith and truly loved Jesus. She enjoyed reading, writing and music. Her family was most dear to her heart, and she adored being a mother and grandmother. Some of the simple things in life she loved was a can of Pepsi, crushed ice and her sweet tooth. Angela was a cancer warrior who fought cancer 3 times and was not afraid to meet God.

Angela is survived by three daughters, Amanda E. (Christopher Ohnmeiss) French of Marquette; Samantha (Lucas) Baldwin of Fort Mills, SC; and Megan (Dakota) Tarvas of Palmer; son, Joshua (Herminia) York of Fort Worth, TX; father James Kauppila Sr. of Hobart, IN, grandchildren, Shyloh and Myles Lehigh, Lydia-Rose Baldwin, Liam Tarvas; two sisters, Marian (Keith) Kangas of Gwinn, MI; Michelle (Allen) Kauppila-Jahovic of Hobart, IN; brother, Jim (Tammy) Kauppila Jr. of Bloomington, IL; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, many old friends and new, and her former husband George York.

Angela was preceded in death by her mother, Renate Kauppila; a sister Sabine Kauppila and a son Joshua Lehigh.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, July 9, 2021, at the Ishpeming Cemetery with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. A celebration of her life will follow immediately after the services by the Presque Isle Pavilion. Feel free to bring a dessert to share.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be directed to her daughter, Amanda French, 1010 Ontario Ave., Marquette, MI 49855 to help offset her funeral expenses.
