Robert H. Betz

MARQUETTE, MI – Robert H. Betz, 83, of Marquette, was called to heaven on Easter morning, April 4, 2021, while at U.P. Health System-Marquette.

Robert was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, in 1937, to the late Robert J Betz and Gertrude (Harter) Betz. He was a 1955 graduate of LaCrosse Central High School.

Immediately following his graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for 20 years. He returned to the same position in 1985, as a civil servant. After his service in the Air Force, he cooked at various establishments in the Marquette County area, including the Coachlight, Big Bay Cafe and Crossroads Restaurant. He also formerly owned and operated the Alpine Pancake House in Marquette. He mostly loved cooking for his family.

Among his hobbies he enjoyed fishing with his beloved brother, Tom.

He enjoyed calling his son, Tim and watching football with him over the phone for hours.

He loved going for brunch with everybody. He was keenly aware of all the love and support he received from Allen, Carrie, Shannon and Jim.

Bob and his wife, also owned an antique business and he enjoyed attending auctions, rummaging and gardening.

He is survived by the love of his life his wife of 32 years, Patty (Dionne) of Marquette; five children, Timothy (Lori) Betz of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Allen Betz of Burnsville, Minnesota, Carolyn (Eric) Dupras of Marquette, Shannon McMahon of Marquette and James (Melissa) McMahon of Pensacola, Florida; a brother, Thomas (Mary Jansky) Betz of Onalaska, Wisconsin, sister-in-law, JoAnn Renaud of Marquette; seven grandchildren, Kimberlee Betz-Montes, Michelle (Dennis) Horton, Kenneth Betz, Nick Dupras, Kendrick Harper, Jeffery McClurg and Josh O’Neil; seven great-grandchildren, Khyley Montes, Jace Montes, Cameron Horton, Ethan Horton, Nevaeh Betz, Paityn Betz and Jackson Dupras; several cousins, nephews and nieces, especially, Dawn (Bill) Veley and Michelle Betz.

The family wants to express a sincere Thank You to Doctor Ginger Bohl and the special nurses on the 6th floor of the U.P Health System, who went above and beyond in providing care and comfort to Bob.

Visitation will take place at 2:00 until 3:30 p.m., at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 3:30 p.m. with Deacon Gregg St. John officiating. Masks and social distancing requirements will be followed with no more than 25 permitted in the funeral home at any given time.
