Richard Leo Goad

BIG BAY, MI – Richard Leo Goad, 73, of Big Bay, Michigan, passed away on March 5, 2021, at his winter home, in Mesa, Arizona, with his loving family by his side.

Richard was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin, on March 13, 1947. He graduated in 1965 from Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette and from Northern Michigan University in 1969.

Upon graduation from Northern he enrolled in the 76th recruit school of the Michigan State Police.

He was very proud to be a trooper and served at the Ithaca and Marquette posts. He received many honors and awards within the department and retired as a Detective Lieutenant of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan within the Michigan State Police.

Once Richard retired in 2003, he and his wife, Mary, moved from Marquette to Big Bay, Michigan and lived on beautiful Lake Independence. They spent winters in Carriage Manor Resort in Mesa, Arizona with many snowbird friends. Richard learned to play tennis and became the president of their tennis club.

Richard is survived by his high school sweetheart of 53 years, Mary Ann (Huffman) Goad; his children, Michelle Goad Wagner of Las Vegas, Nevada and Lisa Goad Bloxsom of Traverse City, Michigan; plus, 4 grandchildren, Carter, Jaden, Addison and Kaliista. He is also survived by his sisters, Jackie Goad Andresen of Marquette and Joan Goad Bauer of Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale Urban Goad and Antoinette Blass Goad, as well as, brothers-in-law, Blayne Andresen and Ron Bauer, and several aunts and uncles.

Rich was a compassionate man who loved his family and cared about his work and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
