Jill Ann (Ostanek) Cutting

GLADSTONE, MI – Jill Ann (Ostanek) Cutting, age 65, of Gladstone, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at her home.

She was born November 30, 1955, in Marquette, MI, the daughter of Joe and Sylvia (Ollila) Ostanek. Growing up in Trenary, MI, Jill developed her feisty attitude and hard work ethic being the middle child of five girls and working on the family strawberry and maple syrup farm.

Fond childhood memories were celebrating birthdays and holidays with family, Sunday trips to camp at 16 Mile Lake with Grandma and Grampa Ollila and ice skating outings at the Trenary ice rink.

Jill graduated from Trenary High School in 1974, earned an associate’s degree from Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City in 1977 and later on, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

Jill worked hard at various jobs all of her life, working for MISS DIGG in Escanaba most recently and for the majority of her career.

Jill loved to cook, spend time with friends and family, and watch sports on TV. The Tigers and the Pistons were her favorites! She also loved her Westies, Callie and Macy. Jill’s greatest joy in life and proudest moments revolved around raising and watching her daughter Gwen grow into a successful and independent woman.

Although Jill could be a headstrong, cantankerous and opinionated woman, underneath it all beat a soft and sentimental heart. Those who really knew her understood this. Jill will be sorely missed by those who truly loved her.

Jill is survived by her daughter and son-in-law – Gwen and Chris Miller and sisters – Susan Ostanek, Julie (Sam) Trotter and Lori (Peter Maki) Ostanek-Maki and her beloved little Westie, Macy.

She was preceded in death by her parents – Joe and Sylvia Ostanek, and her sister, brother-in-law and niece – Marcia and Ron Begovac and their daughter – Leslie.

A private celebration of life honoring Jill will be held at a later date.

The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the family.
