Howard Fregeole

MARQUETTE, MI – Howard Fregeole, age 93, of Marquette, entered eternal life Friday, February 26, 2021, at his home, in the loving, comforting care of his family.

Born December 9, 1927, in Marquette, a son of Leo and Lucille (Nadeau) Fregeole, Howard was raised in Marquette and attended the local schools. He enlisted in the US Navy and, following his honorable discharge, returned to Marquette where he was employed with the Soo Line Railroad as a carman. His later employment was with Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company in maintenance and welding. He retired from CCI, in 1988. In retirement, Howard had more time for his hobbies and special interests, especially taking up stained glass artwork. Throughout the years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a very successful powerboat racer for many years, entering competitions in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota and earning a state championship title in Michigan. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Marquette Golf and Country Club where he made five holes in one over the years. Howard was a true animal lover, especially when it came to his dogs and cats. He was also a member of Marquette Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 405, and Jopling Post 44 of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Joan; three daughters, Stephanie (George) Halvorsen, Cynthia (Karl) Pettys, and Paulette (David) Erickson all of Marquette; his son, Richard (Lisa) Weesen of Marquette; five grandchildren, Angela (Michael) Golisek of Marquette, Ryan (Kate) Halvorsen of Sault Ste. Marie, Shannon Green and Garrett Green both of Minneapolis, MN, and Jessica (Richard) Kubiak of Wisconsin; six great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild; his sister, Virginia Tyrrell of Florida; niece, Gail Swenor of Marquette; nephew, Carl Pellinen of Florida, and several cousins.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Brunngraeber; his brother, Francis Fregeole; and his sister, Marie Pellinen.

Honoring his request, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
