Marilyn Bryn Johnson

ISHPEMING / MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – Marilyn Bryn Johnson, age 87, longtime Ishpeming resident passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Woodland Hospice House in Mount Pleasant.

Marilyn was born in Champion, Michigan, on February 28, 1933, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Jennie (Oie) Urich. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1950.

Marilyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, being active with WELCA, quilters group and a fixture at the soup luncheons. She enjoyed knitting items for her family and others, especially those in need. Marilyn was a volunteer at the Bell Memorial Hospital gift shop for many years. She was an avid bowler in the Tuesday afternoon bowling league. She and her late husband Randy enjoyed camping every summer for 41 years at various campgrounds around the Upper Peninsula and many years at River’s Bend Campground in Iron Mountain.

Marilyn is survived by a daughter: Bryn (Jim) Zalud of Mount Pleasant, MI, a son: Brian (Kim) Johnson of Summersville, WV, 6 grandchildren: Amanda (Scott) Nelson, Jeremy (Rita) Zalud, Jon (Mallory) Zalud, Kristy Johnson, Colten Johnson, Kelly Johnson, 7 great- grandchildren: Douglas, Eleanor, Braxton, Ryan, Leland, Marik, Aili, nieces and nephews, 2 sisters-in-laws: Dorothy Urich and Mary Urich and special friend: Ann Sundblad.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Randy Johnson, 2 brothers: Dan and Roger Urich and a nephew: David Urich.

Due to current restrictions regarding COVID, a service will be held in the Spring of 2021, tentatively scheduled from May 1, 2021.

Inurnment will take place in the Spring at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
