Leonard A. Blondeau

Leonard Blondeau

GWINN, MI – Leonard A. Blondeau, age 94, of Gwinn, entered eternal life Thursday, November 26, 2020, at UP Health System – Marquette.

Len was always proud of saying he was born “in the woods of Skandia Township” where his father operated a sawmill. Born July 6, 1926, a son of Peter and Josephine (Dupras) Blondeau, Len was raised in Skandia Township where he first began to develop the strong work ethic that was to remain with him for the rest of his life. He graduated from Graveraet High School in 1944 and, in November, entered the US Navy. He served primarily on landing craft in the South Pacific Theater of Operations, until the war ended. He was in Tokyo Bay at the time of the signing of the peace treaty with Japan. Upon his honorable discharge, Len returned to the Marquette area. On October 23, 1948, Len was united in marriage to Lois Lancour at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn. Together they established their first home in Marquette and began raising their family. They moved to Lansing in 1955, moving to Little Lake in 1972, and later to the Sands and Gwinn area. Len and Lois enjoyed traveling and camping with their family. They enjoyed entertaining and the house was always full. Throughout the years, Len was employed as a carpenter mostly in home construction. He retired as the facility manager of the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base Hospital. In retirement, Len kept busy with more carpentry work, purchasing homes, renovating, and then selling them. He enjoyed being busy. With his outgoing personality and sense of humor, he made many lifelong friends along the way and people were attracted to him. He was always willing to lend a hand where needed. Len was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn.

Len is survived by his daughters, Julie (Richard) Huth of New Lisbon, WI and Lorrie (Mike) LaHaye of Los Lunas, NM; sons, Larry Blondeau of Sawyer and Daniel (Beth) Blondeau of Eaton Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Patty Blondeau of Marquette; his grandchildren, Peter (Leslie) Blondeau, Rachel (Taylor) Teachout, Rick (Esther) Huth, Arrin Huth, and Josie (Mike) LaHaye; great-grandchildren, Molly and Lexi Huth, Bristal and Mason Teachout; sisters-in-law, Janet Wood of Marquette, Dorothy and Elizabeth Lancour both of Skandia; brother-in-law, Charles Button of Hawaii; numerous nieces and nephews, and a large extended family.

Len was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lois; a son, Scott Blondeau; a grandson, Michael LaHaye; a sister, Dorothy (the late Frank) Carrier; and brother, Louis (Evelyn) Blondeau.

Graveside services, with veterans honors, will be held at the Forsyth Township Cemetery in Gwinn in the spring of 2021 and will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activity Fund, 425 Fisher Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
